Makenna Koffee Co. began with a simple belief: a coffee shop should leave people happier than when they walked in. If caffeine can boost your mood, why can't the shop and the baristas making your coffee boost it too?

 

So in 2019, our family set out to create a different kind of coffee shop in Simi Valley. One where exceptional coffee and quality ingredients mattered just as much as the people serving them. Where the shops were beautiful, the music was good, the baristas were having fun and everyone who walked through the door felt welcome.

 

The spirit behind Makenna started long before the coffee did. Our roots are in Southern California, surfing and the ocean. At a young age, one of our founders started a surf business that had him living between California and Hawaii. He developed a deep love and appreciation for the land, its people, the lifestyle, and culture.

 

Years later, his daughter was named Makenna after Makena Beach on Maui. So when it came time to name the coffee shop, Makenna felt like home. That love of surf culture, the ocean and the spirit of Aloha still runs through everything we do. To us, Aloha means to be kind, have fun, take care of people and make everyone feel welcome. And that doesn't stop at our doors.

 

Every Makenna should feel like part of the neighborhood it's in. We want to know our neighbors, support our local schools, families, organizations and causes, and show up for the communities that show up for us.
